Spring Is Just Around the Bend, Chouteau Bend That Is

Had a great day on the water at Chouteau Bend with three fine young men yesterday! Trent, Mike and Roy came out for their first ever Spoonbill/Paddlefish snagging trip and the action commenced only moments after getting the lines wet. Roy was the first to hook up on what was the smallest “spoonie” of the day and it was a heated battle (all in fun) all day to see who would reign supreme with the biggest and most.20140329_122423_resized

Roy of course took an early lead with the first fish, then proceeded to jump ahead with yet another before Trent finally scored one. Mike was the last to hook up with his first fish of the day, but he took a commanding lead on the biggest from the git-go with a sow in the 65 lb range. All said and done, it ended up in a three way tie for biggest fish and for the biggest grins!! We did manage one “double” for the day with a pair of nice mid 50# fish caught by Mike & Roy! Now that was fun, I’m here to tell ya!!20140329_102059_resized

Going into the final moments of the trip and tied for “most” fish, Roy had a good-un on but it pulled off before we could get it close to the boat, then out of nowhere, Trent pulled in the last fish of the day and squeaked out a one fish lead over the others! In all, we boated, took pics and released 16 Spoonbill/Paddlefish and had more than several hook-ups on fish that pulled off before we could get them to the boat. All three gents caught their biggest fish “ever” and had loads of fun all the while!20140329_155731_resized

Thank You Roy, Trent and Mike for making my job so easy yesterday! Y’all were a lot of fun and you are more than welcome back in my boat anytime!!20140329_115538_resized
