WOW, what a day!!
Again, had the pleasure of having Monte and Taylor Sprouse and good friend Jim in the boat for some fun filled, action packed, combat fishing fun on Skiatook for Hybrid Stripers (Wipers)!! Had taken them out for some catfishing last month on Keystone and this time they were ready for some Hybrid action.
Our day started at 8:00 AM and by 8:10 we were baiting lines for the first set! Only moments after baiting up, it was non-stop, rod bending, line stretching, fish catching action for the next four (4) hours straight! Well over 100+ fish boated, and most times we had 2-3 fish on at a time!! At one time we had 5 of six rods bowed down with hard fighting Hybrids on the other end and the locator looked like the picture the whole time! Honestly, it was bait up, drop down, BAM, fish on for four solid hours! Luckily I’d brought plenty (200+) of bait and we burnt through the better part of them by the end of the first four hours!
We managed a full legal limit of overs and unders in short order and the remainder of the day it was catch & release. After four hours of not moving and fish catching action, I decided to make a move to possibly find some larger fish, but after a half hour of one here, one there and the same sized fish we’d been catching on spot #1, we moved back and finished out the trip catching and releasing!
YES, the Hybrid bite is ON at Skiatook Lake and in full swing! It should only get better for the next 1-2 months at least! Of course, it won’t be long before the Stripers move back into the lake from spawning on Keystone Lake, so that fishery is about to bust wide open as well! Stay tuned!!
Thank You Monte, Taylor and Jim for choosing to spend another day on the water with Hawker’s Guide Service! I very much enjoy having you in the boat, and one of these days (when fish catching slows down) we might actually get to finish some of our story sharing LOL!!
