Fished a two boat trip on Skiatook Lake today along with Larry Wine of Hook Line & Sinker Guide Service. While you could not have asked for a “nicer” day, the fishing started off pretty tough throughout most of the morning. The lake was like glass almost with not a breath of air stirring, and it took a while for the fish to wake up it seemed, and start feeding!
Left the dock at 7:00 A.M. sharp and headed to waters that have been turning loads of fish for a while, including yesterday when another guide friend boated over 80 fish in that location. Pulled in and looked around with the graph and wasn’t marking much of anything, especially the big blob of spaghetti we were hoping to find. Moved from spot to spot to spot, looking for signs of schooling feed fish but nothing to be found. Pulled alongside Larry Wine (second boat of group trip) and his crew was wacking and stacking them left and right. We on the other hand couldn’t buy a bite and of course the smack talk was flying across the short span of water between boats haha!! Another guide boat on the other side of Larry was faring much the same as us and I have to tell you it was exasperating to watch fish after fish succumb to the net only a short distance away while we watched longingly from my boat!! Finally we moved out and went in search of fish once again, and finally,,,,,,,,,, finally found a small school of hungry feeding fish,,,,, whewwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!
Had many doubles and a couple of triples on during the feeding spree and everyone in my boat went from gloom to glee in no time! Ended the day with a full legal limit and a ½ dozen nice fat “blues” to sweeten the fish fry pot. Caught and released several more fish after we reached of full legal limit and the day ended on a much sweeter note than it began with!!
Thank You Paul, David and Derek for your patience with me day as we ground out some catching to go along with the fishing!! You guys were loads of fun and are more than welcome back anytime your back up this way from sunny Florida!!
Had to add a couple pics I took at the boat ramp parking lot while waiting on my guys to show up this morning! I “think” I saw the boat that belongs to the trailer out on the water, but have no way of knowing for sure! It was kinda a fun sight to behold so thought I’d share it!!
