June Weekend FRENZY on Keystone (6/28/14)

Windy, Wet and Wild Weekend FRENZY!

20140628_060449_resizedWhewwwww, almost glad this day is over LOL! While not a day for fast and furious fish catching action, it was indeed a good day in that we got off the water just before the skies dumped torrential downpours of rain and the skies opened up with some wild lightning at the conclusion of the trip!

Went to Keystone Lake in hopes we’d continue the fast paced Striper catching activity of the past couple of weeks only to be met with some really high winds and waves that would remind you of being on the ocean!! Tried to fish in the area I’ve been hammering the Stripers lately, but it was just too rough and we headed for slightly calmer protected waters. Once there, it was still pretty breezy, but the wave action was much less and mostly fishable.20140628_090810_resized

First fish of the day was about a ten pound Blue Cat, then followed shortly by our first Striper of the day, a nice 5-6 pounder caught by Robert and it put up a pretty good battle! 20140628_133903_resizedShortly after, Gary hooked into an even bigger Striper 6-8 lbs, and another good battle ensued until it finally came close enough to slide into the net20140628_134019_resized. We missed several more good hits but nothing committed enough take our offerings of lively and frisky shad and as we prepared to move to another location, we were approached by a couple of Oklahoma Game Wardens in a patrol boat. They were coming in close to ask us how the fishing was going for us and interested mainly in our luck with the Stripers and we had a true to life “Run-In” with them! LOL I won’t go into details, but we had a minor collision on the water with them and my trolling motor “LOST”! Yep, it got broke  so we were destined to anchor up the remainder of the day! They are going to pay to have it fixed, so that’s a good thing but I hate not having the use of one of my best tools right now!!

20140628_133926_resizedAfter anchoring up in two more locations, finally Matt was able to tie into and land a Striper, and even though it wasn’t the same caliber of the two prior Stripers caught, he didn’t get the “skunk”. We did have a couple of good fish on today, some that just pulled off during the battle, and one for sure that just plain broke off! Arrggghhhh!!!

20140628_133949_resizedThank You Gary (Grizz) Adams, Robin (FishWhisperer), Matt Bradley & Robert Catcher for taking the June Weekend FRENZY trip on Keystone Lake with me! Wish the conditions (fish catching) had been much better than it was, and I apologize for the soaking y’all got today as we traveled midst the big waves! Hope to see y’all again, and sure appreciate each one of ya!!
Tight Lines
Steve
