Skiatook 4/22/13 With the Hix Clan
Fished Skiatook on Monday, 4/22/13 with three generations of the Hix family, and WHAT A DAY of fishing it was!! Partly cloudy and warm with temps in the 70’s, starting off with a bit of a drizzle, then turning mostly sunny with periods of clouds, and spirits were running high as the hard fighting Hybrids indeed showed up to play!
Paul Sr, accompanied by his friend Linda, his Son Paul Jr. and Grandson Titan, requested a short notice fishing trip and just wanted to spend the day hopefully catching something that would put a good bend in a rod, maybe stretch a little line and hopefully have something to take home afterwards for table fare. I’d been on the lake only two days prior and with the high winds that were forecast for the day, had a pretty good idea where we could fulfill their wishes. Due to some difficulties at another area where I went to catch bait, we didn’t get started until noon, but the timing couldn’t have been better for this trip.
We’d only been fishing for less than 10 minutes before the first Hybrid came to play, and while the action was not “fast and furious”, it was pretty steady throughout the entire trip with a few “doubles” thrown in for good measure. The fish we caught were a good mix of both “Overs” (bigger than 20”) and “Unders” (less than 20”), and the “Unders” were very close to the 20” mark. At the end of the day, Linda had caught big fish of the day which was less than a pound under the current lake record Hybrid. We kept just shy (3 fish) of a legal limit, but we did release several fish throughout the day after we’d reached our legal limit of over 20” fish and even caught and released a couple three largemouth bass that were enticed into feeding on the lively shad we were using.
The Hix family were great to have in the boat, and I thoroughly enjoyed helping, watching and getting more than a few chuckles and laughs out of young (5 yr old) Titan battle the Hybrids!! It is so refreshing and enjoyable to help and watch youngsters experience the excitement of catching fish, especially the hard fighting Hybrids, and having young Titan in the boat was no exception!! Everyone caught some quality Skiatook Hybrids and had a great time, and I look forward to hosting the Hix family again in the future!
Thank You Paul, and Paul, Linda and Titan for utilizing Hawker’s Guide Service. It was my great pleasure to have spent the day with you as we made some memories that will last a lifetime for you all!!
