Choteau Bend On Fire!

What a day! Had the extreme pleasure of taking Mr. Larry Long and four of his grandchildren on an excursion to Choteau Bend to snag a few Spoonbill and catch a few Sandbass! The primary focus was for the grandkids to have fun catching fish, and have fun they did indeed!!

I lost track actually, but we "boated" somewhere around 8 or 9 Spoonbill weighing in anywhere from 40 pounds to 60 plus pounds, lost a couple more at the boat and had a couple more come unbuttoned before we got them to the boat!! The younger folks ranged in ages from 18 down to 6 years old, and they were a true pleasure to watch in action as they battled the "spoonies"! PaPa Larry had to lend a helping hand with young one on the spoonies, but listening to his "WOW's", and many other child like expletives as he battled the spoonies brought some deep chuckles from his PaPa and me alike!

The eleven year old granddaughter was a pure joy to watch as she fought the spoonies, and after her first fish and a little coaching, battled the rest like a "Pro"!!

The 18 yr old "twins" were the first to do battle with the Spoonbill's and the looks on their faces while they were doing battle was priceless! I'd told them that when they first hooked up on a Spoonbill it'd be akin to hooking onto a fast moving freight train going in the opposite direction and they both concurred that it was pretty accurate description!!

We did take a couple of breaks and fished for Sandbass and caught a dozen or so to take home for the frying pan and ended up with about a gallon size zip lock bag pretty full!

All in all it was a wonderful day on the water with a "GREAT" family! It would truly be a toss-up as to had the most fun, them or me, but no matter it was a blessing to have shared my boat with them!! Thank You Larry for allowing me to be a part of your day with your wonderful grandchildren!!
