Hitting the Bend (Chouteau Bend) Again!

A last minute cancellation left me ready to hit the water today and no one to go, so rather than let a beautiful day go to waste, I phoned a friend and off we went!

Our primary target species at Chouteau Bend today were the White Bass, and while we found a dozen or so of varying sizes on both artificial & small live shad. Amazingly, artificial’s out-fished the live shad, at least where we were. After checking a few locations and not finding any big schools of White Bass, we changed gears and began a search for some Spoonbill to snag!!

Moving down river only slightly from where we were searching for White Bass, I stopped in an area I’ve utilized before and our search didn’t take long!! In fact, I was hooked up on my first cast, and the action hardly slowed down for the next two solid hours!! Don’t know how many we actually boated, but a bunch and for the most part they were all in the 50 - 60 lb range at least!!

20140410_144816_resizedAll in all a GREAT day to be on the water with my good friend Pat Lemons, his little pup Pepper & a boat load of fish!

It’s been a while since I’ve seen the snagging action this good and hopefully it will last another couple of weeks!20140410_163141_resized The White Bass action truly is beginning to pick up, with lots of fat females moving up to spawn! If you’d like to go, now’s the time, so make that call, you know you want to Smilie: :)
