Fished Kaw lake up by Ponca City this past Friday (3/7/14) with a group from western Kansas targeting winter time Blue Cats & the weather wasn’t quite what the weather-folks said it would would be. Expected highs in the 60′s and sunshine with 10-15 mph winds, instead got temps in the upper 40′s to low 50′s throughout most of the day, cloudy and winds gusting to near 30 mph.

Fast forward…………………………. found a large group of shad for the netting and after stockpiling on fresh shad proceeded to find some willing eaters, namely the BlueResizedImage951394484600163 Cats! Within minutes after getting six rods baited up and fancast around our anchored position, the first rod bowed down under the strain of a nice blue about 20 lbs! Shortly after landing that fish and re-baiting another Blue came to play, and we were off to a good start. The pattern seemed to be catch two or three in one spot, move a couple hundred yards and repeat the process. Ended up with some “nice” Blues in the cooler from 8 lbs up to the big-un of the day 20+ lbs, and some happy smiling faces. All in all a good day on the water despite the weather and look forward to the days getting better and the fishing getting hotter in the weeks to come!

Still have plenty of openings for Spring Break and many fishing opportunities await! Tight Lines everyone!!
